Description
Title character from the book "Mariel of Redwall", with her gullwhacker.
"Mariel" is my favourite of the Redwall books I have read. I can't quite put my finger on why. Perhaps it is because the female characters in those books were boring and lacked personality, while Mariel had some spirit.
This is my second attempt at drawing her. The first was drawn in the Redwall TV series-style, and I disliked it.
Unrelated to the pic itself, I must say that I'm sure her father, Joseph the Bellmaker, was none-too-pleased at his daughter's self-chosen last-name of Gullwhacker, after he took such pride in her given one:
"The nicest thing I ever made was your name -- Mariel. It sounds like a bell ringing clear across meadows on a soft spring morn. Can't you hear it... Mariel! Mariel!"
Background is a photo I took up by the Lion's Gate Bridge. Figured a scene like that was appropriate for her.
EDIT: Yes, yes, I took a lot of liberties with her design.

The know in the rope needs to be bigger...and from this angle it looks like the rope is rather short...other than those two things, she's pretty!
