Recession by tuftedpuffin is composed in such a way that the viewer is tricked into thinking that they are gazing upon a sunset forest painting. However, this is in fact an incredible capture of a rock's surface, giving us a creative and abstract twist on geology photography!

Description
The natural colours on a rockface in Palm Valley, Northern Territory, reminded me of the ocean retreating from the dry land.
Palm Valley is famous for its Red Cabbage Palms, which are only found in the area. It has long been assumed that the Red Cabbage Palm is a remnant species from when the region was wetter, but current research has shown that it is identical to another palm grown in two pockets nearly 1000km away to the north, and that the "split" happened only about 15,000 years ago. Local aboriginal legends tell of "gods from the north" bringing their seeds to the region.
This was taken while on a photography workshop with Steve Parish. As you know, I don't normally post photos like this, but he got me looking at things in a different way, and that included natural patterns and colours in rocks, on trees, and so forth. It was a priceless experience, learning from and shooting alongside a master such as him.
